MV Atlas

Atlas at Anchor3

Designed by renowned naval architect Arthur Defever, the MV Atlas is a pilothouse trawler that rides comfortably in all weather conditions, with large windows for viewing the spectacular outdoors in rain and shine. The view from the pilothouse, portugese bridge and bow is ideal for wildlife viewing, photography and general relaxation. The aft and side decks are open but covered; again well-suited for inclement weather but also ideal for hot sunny days on the ocean. There is a swim grid for easy access to the skiff or loading into kayaks.

Atlas has two staterooms for privacy and comfort, and spacious and stylish salon quarters. There is a newly renovated washroom (head) with a separate shower. Her mahogany interior enhances the traditional, classic feel throughout her living and sleeping quarters. A fully-equipped and well-designed galley facilitates the preparation of spectacular fresh meals, and the large salon area is perfect for enjoying a tasty feast and toasting a great day with friends.

Atlas is registered with Transport Canada as a passenger vessel. Powered by ever-reliable twin John Deere engines, Atlas has two propellers and engines, meaning that in the unlikely case of an engine-problem, there is always a back-up. She is also fully equipped with safety gear, including a 10-person life raft, certified life jackets (in addition to the personal flotation devices used for kayaking and skiff exploration), handheld radios, flares, fire extinguishers, and an engine room suppression system. Atlas was recently overhauled and safety alarms were installed and upgraded in all compartments.

Regardless of your interests, our onboard library will likely have something for you to enjoy. You will find numerous books on the natural and cultural history of Haida Gwaii/Queen Charlotte Islands, Haida art and stories, and fictional and non-fictional literature about the islands. We also have a number of field guides for birds, marine mammals and fish, intertidal species, and other plants and animals for your use and reference. And if you just want a little light holiday reading, we will dig up something for you to escape with.
